Lillie and Jean at Garageland

Garageland has always been about supporting emerging musicians the length and breadth of the country. This year, Garageland teamed up with Cruinniú na nÓg to showcase the remarkable musical talents of children and young people all over Ireland.

We put out an open call to up and coming musicians across the country and were blown away by the amazing response. Killarney sister duo, Lillie & Jean Foley, were just one of the countless acts that wowed us with their video submissions.

“The pieces we have submitted were recordings of a Covid Compliant Concert we live-streamed from St Mary’s Cathedral, Killarney on the 24th February 2021. They were recorded in the middle of a lock-down and we just wanted to do something to lift people’s spirits. We were grateful to be accompanied by fantastic musicians; Noel O’Sullivan was on piano and Olwyn Trant was on violin. We choose songs with a variety of tempos and genres to suit people both young and old who would tune in to listen to us.

“I began to sing at a young age, 6 or 7, because my aunt wanted me to sing at her wedding, so that is when I took my first singing lessons. Jean followed suit shortly after me and we took it from there! We both have our voices trained and have finished our grades. We play the piano and guitar and love to sing, to harmonise songs and to perform. I am studying for a degree in Music in the University of Limerick, Jean will be doing her Leaving Certificate next year.

“Music means so much to us, and helps us to express ourselves. We have so much fun singing together and enjoy sharing our love of music with others.”
