SUGARTOWN - Carlow Arts festival

SUGAR TOWN is a distinct and unique project, beginning work in 2018 and continuing into 2019 for presentation as a large scale spectacle event led by internationally renowned director of Aarhus European City of Culture closing ceremony – Dina Abu Hamden.

Following a year long collaboration with the people and communities of Carlow, the narrative came to life through stories and memories of Carlow’s recent past, real life characters and images.

Featuring live music, choirs and dance, Sugartown is a universal story of people who are in love with their land who are determined to carry on. It will feature professional and community performers including; Carlow Choral Society under the direction of Music Director Blanaid Murphy, Carlow College of Music, Aspiro, Take A Part Carlow’s Let Loose Youth Group, members of Music Generation Carlow, Byrneside Eurocyl, Ballet Barn, County Carlow Youth Theatre, Dance Republic, the award winning local Uillean Piper Colm Broderick and many more local and national artists and contributors.

Of course it would not be Saturday night at Carlow Arts Festival without Fireworks. Sugartown will finish with an epic bang!

SUGARTOWN will take place as part of the Carlow Arts Festival 2019

This project is supported by the Creative Ireland Carlow Open Call 2018/19
