Artist Aoife Barrett previously invited residents of Raheen Community Hopsital to participate in a series of conversations, printmaking activities and bookmaking activities to promote creativity, storytelling and the exchange of knowledge.
The Raheen residents and Aoife will now develop this work by creating a series of five artistic books inspired by these stories, knowledge and themes. The books will be produced as lasercut woodblock plates that will be presented and shared with the wider community through live printing events during Bealtaine.
Members of the public will have the opportunity to print this block and create their own booklet to take away. The project is orientated around experiments with printmaking, practices of sharing, creating a sense of belonging and place and exploring local culture, heritage and traditions.
The themes of the books look at place-based knowledge and stories, traditions of rearing hens, the threshing of corn, local literature and the Clare Bus.
