Strand Campus Digital Gaming Hub
Strand Campus were awarded €1.9m from the Enterprise Ireland REDF in 2019 to develop a 9,000 square foot digital gaming hub. This will be the first dedicated enterprise space aimed towards the digital gaming industry and associated gaming technology uses. This industry is ideally suited to the North West for a number of reasons that include:
- The structure of the gaming industry is such that it is dominated by smaller specialist firms working on subcontract to larger publishers (e.g. EA Games) or as smaller independent studios
- The North West has an ever growing reputation as a centre of creative industries and Sligo has a strong and growing reputation in this sector and the ICT sector
- The project has the support of all local HEI’s from a training, development and research perspective.
“The Digital Content Sector will continue to grow between now and the end of the decade with the games and online content sub-sectors most likely to grow most rapidly nationally, with average annual employment growth of 5% before the end of the decade possible” – (Source - PMCA Foresight Report on the Digital Content Sector in Ireland and the Irish Border Counties).
