Under the Briars: A Play by John McManus

An abandoned island, an ancient graveyard, a cursed plot, a deal with the deveil and two gravediggers who hate each other: what could possible go wrong? Another dark comedy from John McManus.

The play is from the imagination of a playwright deeply connected to the landscape and his unique Cavan perspective as a border place in south Ulster. John Mc Manus is a highly regarded playwright. His work has travelled internationally including the USA and Germany. His plays include 'No Hate Going to Loss' the winner of the RTÉ P.J. O'Connor Radio Drama Award, 2005, 'A Lock of Fierce Roars', Danger Money, The Quare Land, The Determinator, The Barber of Belcoo, and Sparrowhawk. Both The Barber of Belcoo and Sparrowhawk were commissioned by Cavan County Council Arts Office through Creative Ireland. Mc Manus is of Cavan, but his work is relevant to every place where fragile humans dwell.

Produced by the Townhall, Cavan, in association with the Sillan Players and directed by award-winning Shercock-based Director Paddy Farrelly.

Expect a visceral theatrical experience, with poetic language, and more than a little mayhem.
