Colours, characters, action and life: 11 people share artworks that inspire them

The National Gallery of Ireland has long been a creative, enlightening and enriching resource in Irish life and since its reopening this summer after extensive refurbishment, its vital cultural role is set to continue.

Celebrating the gallery’s current campaign, Inspire the Nation, this new video captures the inspiration that people of all ages and from all walks of life, have found within those 19th-century walls.

From musicians to designers, athletes to astrophysicists, children to retirees – 11 people consider what the gallery and a selection of its treasured artwork, means to them. Each unique viewpoint underscores the value and importance of art in everyday life.

“There’s this little moment on the wall that you can peer at for a very long time and still find very interesting things; things that kind of relate to the life you might have yourself” – Barry Devlin
