Offaly County Archives Service

Offaly Historical Society and Offaly County Council are working together to develop and implement a county archive strategy.

This is focused on two main strands:

  • The first strand sees the digitisation and online hosting of archives on www.offalyarchives.com, featuring a number of collections, including documents from Birr Castle Archives and the Digby Irish Estate papers, along with the collections from both bodies.
  • The second strand is the development of a county archive building, which will host the collection of Offaly County Archives, currently in Tullamore Central Library, along with the Offaly History Collection, currently in Bury Quay. It is currently under construction and will open in 2019.
Both collections are set to benefit from being co-located, which represents a considerable improvement for researchers.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
