This is a multi-phase multi platform project which will see original and new poetry for early years audiences commissioned, performed, published and recorded. This project will be lead by Branar Téatar do Pháistí in partnership with Children’s Books Ireland and Poetry Ireland and in conjunction with Galway City and County Councils.

The concept for this project arises out of the Branar personal experience of reading and reciting nursery rhymes with their young children and observing the impact that nursery rhymes and non-sense rhymes and poetry has had on their early and formative experiences of language and communication. There is the canon of old familiars and newer work by writers like Michael Rosen available to access.

Branar create work for audiences aged 0-12, and we have collaborated and continue to collaborate with organisations and artists making work for children in the early years 0-6 age group. Collaboration and devising is the hallmark of Branar’s creative process, and this collaborative process includes working with our partners in Poetry Ireland, Children’s Books Ireland, the prospective writers and performers.

Branar envisage that the project has the potential to be developed and expanded within both national and international contexts.
