{"id":11866,"date":"2020-10-29T03:01:59","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T03:01:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.creativeireland.gov.ie\/event\/the-avonmore-river\/"},"modified":"2020-10-29T03:01:59","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T03:01:59","slug":"the-avonmore-river","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.creativeireland.gov.ie\/en\/event\/the-avonmore-river\/","title":{"rendered":"The Avonmore River"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span><span><span><span>The catchment of the Avonmore River, taken together with the Avonbeg and Avoca rivers is the largest in county Wicklow,\u00a0covering\u00a0some 650 sq kilometres.\u00a0It stretches from Lough Tay and Lough Dan in the north and includes most of the east Wicklow glens as well as rolling countryside south from Rathdrum, Avoca and Arklow, where it reaches the sea.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>The river waters and riparian corridor sustain a rich biodiversity and transect a landscape and countless towns, villages and places steeped in history and cultural heritage.\u00a0Using the river as the geographic anchor,\u00a0this project seeks to curate a series of short stories, using local community input and expertise\u00a0to highlight and document aspects of local\u00a0cultural heritage and history. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span>The outcomes from this project will be hosted on the Our Wicklow Heritage, the online\u00a0community heritage archive for county Wicklow and will be disseminated in the wider community through the Wicklow County Council\u2019s and local stakeholder\u2019s social media.
