The Mighty Ocean <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em>is a newly composed suite\u00a0of music, c<\/span><\/span><\/span>omposed by M\u00e1irt\u00edn O\u2019Connor,\u00a0reflecting on climate change and the environment. It\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>is being\u00a0produced by\u00a0Galway Music Residency for TG4 as part of Galway 2020\u2019s Capital of Culture Programme and will have its World Premiere on Sunday 25 April 2021 at 9:30pm. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Mighty Ocean<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em>\u00a0opens a musical dialogue between mankind and the environment, touching on the entrancing power of the sea, while questioning the\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span>destructive influence of humankind on our endangered oceans. The piece is scored and arranged\u00a0for 12 musicians including Irish traditional music legends M\u00e1irt\u00edn O\u2019Connor, Garry \u00d3 Briain, Cathal Hayden,\u00a0Seamie O\u2019Dowd and Jimmy Higgins, and Galway Music Residency\u2019s ensemble in residence, ConTempo Quartet.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As well as exploring the themes of climate change, environment and\u00a0<\/span><\/span>landscape,\u00a0the half-hour film marks a decades-long musical dialogue between Galway Music Residency, its permanent ensemble in residence ConTempo Quartet, M\u00e1irt\u00edn O\u2019Connor,\u00a0<\/span>Garry \u00d3\u00a0Briain and Cathal Hayden.
