Salmon fishing was once a big part of life in the village of Ardmore, county Waterford.<\/p>\n
The knowledge and life experiences associated with salmon fishing are a key part of Ardmore’s heritage and we aim to interview a number of men and women who were involved in the practice.\u00a0This project proposes to record the memories of the families involved in the fishing industry & to produce a film based on their memories. We aim to explore the tools used, the sounds, the places, the memories of the good and the bad.<\/p>\n
We aim to use the surviving physical remnants of the industry ie. boats, nets, hand tools, outboard engines, to prompt their memories and knowledge. As field archaeologists we will record these objects as if they were archaeological finds and through film we will attach the sights and sounds of fishing to this fading way of life.<\/p>\n
\nWe see the project as a chance to capture the deep local knowledge which may still contain traces of the older fishing methods used in West Waterford. We wish also to listen to our neighbours who have informed opinions on climate change, conservation and the value of local perspectives on such topics.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":14456,"template":"","class_list":["post-14455","event","type-event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
