Glenroe and Ballyorgan communities are working with artist, Veronica Santorum, to create a natural sculpture along the Keale River Walk which links the two communities.<\/p>\n
This is a participatory art project involving two neighbouring villages, Glenroe and Ballyorgan and others from neighbouring areas in the Ballyhoura Region in East Limerick. Together they will create a land art sculpture made from natural materials depicting a figure from local mythology ‘Ois\u00edn of Na Fianna’ and explore and respect life and decay within the forest environment\u00a0along a public walking trail. The project will take place from August 2021 and culminate in a community event in October.<\/p>\n
The aims of the project are<\/p>\n
\u00b7 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to engage Ballyorgan and Glenroe communities in creating an outdoor landart sculpture with an artist, building capacity, confidence and community spirit<\/p>\n
\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to offer art in an outdoor setting so that local people can make and encounter art in their own area with some workshops taking place in the villages<\/p>\n
\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to encourage people to walk the route to visit the sculpture and receive the health benefits of being in nature and exercising.<\/p>\n
\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0to provide a focal point for local tourism and offer visitors a further cultural experience in County Limerick<\/p>\n
