Waterford is a C<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>ommunity Archaeology project and part of the Heritage Councils Adopt a Monument Initiative<span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>. Over the past five years Waterford County Museum have carried out archaeological excavations, exhibitions and on-site heritage days to reveal the significant heritage of the site. They discovered the earliest coin ever found in Waterford and evidence of the site being used from pagan times, reconstructed in the 7th Century, a prominent Anglo-Norman Site with a wooden tower and use as a burial site and gallows. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>The site is surrounded by an expansive green space bounded by a concrete wall <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>but is devoid of any information highlighting the historical significance of the site for residents or visitors. This project will highlight the history of Gallows Hill including findings from recent excavations through the design and creation of a heritage interpretation panel in pressed metal that is in keeping with the landscape context of the site. It will promote pride of place within the local community and reflect the heritage significance of the site.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Development of the project will involve<strong> <\/strong>staff from Waterford Councils Environment, and Heritage Sections, Waterford Co.
