Reading Your Local Landscape is a landscape environmental heritage course that teaches communities to understand the inherent qualities of the environment around us; built and natural. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n

The aim of the course is to provide the participants with <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • A knowledge and understanding of the natural, built and cultural resources of the study area<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • The necessary skills to undertake further research and work in the area of local heritage interpretation<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
  • Opportunities to identify landscape resources which could be utilised to enhance your employment opportunities<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The course consists of a series of modules delivered through lectures, case studies and field trips to sites of interest within the local area,<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> as well as group research and discussion. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    Modules include: <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

    • Geology and the shape of the local landscape<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Maps <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Biodiversity and habitats<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Archaeology<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Architecture<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Industrial archaeology<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Settlement and communication<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Heritage interpretation<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
    • Project mentoring <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Each participant will be required to complete a short project on their chosen aspect of local heritage. The course will finish with a public display of the participants project work and a presentation of Certificates of Course Completion. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
