The theme of the project is fireside storytelling, drawing on the heritage of the bogs of Offaly, the creativity of its community, and the power of gathering together. This project will weave local cultural heritage into new forms through telling and retelling around the fireside. New threads are drawn from the old and the community are drawn in through interactive performances, exhibition, social media and documentary.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It will involve three strands, Strand one is an Event Night, involving a one-night interactive dramatic performance, a guest lecture on local heritage, and a Visual Art Exhibition all taking place at an event on the 14th Oct 2022 in JJ Hough\u2019s Singing Pub. Strands Two and Three are a film documentary documenting the process of the project, and the publication of a book of collected images and text related to the project. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The project will be situated in the tradition of the \u201cEco-Gothic\u201d and Banagher\u2019s literary and historical past, including writers of note who lived or visited the area such as Charlotte Bronte and James Pope Hennessy, and will endeavor to communicate the cultural heritage of the region in new ways.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
