The Laois premiere screening of Superhuman<\/em> written\/directed by M\u00edche\u00e1l Fleming and produced by Michael-David McKernan <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>takes place at the\u00a0Dunamaise Arts Centre and is the first short film made as part of Laois’s 2021 inaugural Short Film Bursary Award.<\/p>\n

After being rejected from professional football and diagnosed with a degenerative eye disease, an African-Irish secondary school student is guided towards para-athletics and a new identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The 2021 Laois Short Film Bursary was awarded to Swandive Productions and explores\u00a0universal themes, with a micro lens on para-athletics and being black and living in Ireland. It showcases a young person overcoming great challenges, as well as people giving support to those who need it most. It is a pertinent film and sheds light on new types of narratives and the lives of those that often go unseen. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Superhuman<\/em> went <\/em>into production in Laois in March 2022. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The cast involved in <\/span><\/span><\/span>Superhuman\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/em>are <\/span><\/span><\/span>Aaron Edo who most recently filmed the role of Tecky alongside Aidan Gillen in the feature film \u2018Barber<\/em>,\u2019 and the role of Jonner alongside Angeline Ball in the Screen Ireland-backed feature film \u2018Deadly Cuts\u2019<\/em>, directed by Rachel Carey. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Esosa Ighodaro is recogisable for her TV roles in \u2018Harry Wild\u2019<\/em>, \u2018Kin\u2019<\/em>, \u2018Smother\u2019, \u2018Taken Down\u2019<\/em> (2018) and Irish drama film \u2018<\/span>Rose Plays Julie\u2019<\/em>. Aoibhinn McGinnity, well known for her role in Love\/Hate, and John Cronin, a regular on Fair City.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
