In 2022 the Walls Project commenced their mural painting project on Waterford city\u2019s Bridge Street, a rundown area of the city in need of a facelift. With the support of Waterford City and County Council , Creative Ireland Waterford and the building owners, The Walls Project secured the go-ahead and funds to paint the very large facades of both the Fitzwilton Hotel and the apartment block at numbers 11 and 12. In 2023, with permission fully secured from the building owner at No.9 Bridge St, The Walls Project are now tantalisingly close to completing painting the entire streetscape with large, beautiful street art murals. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This work is sure to give the area some real uplift, and the Walls Project will include two community engagement workshops with one of our facilitators in early springtime using the Murals for Communities<\/em> methodologies developed as part of our Creative Europe project 2018-2020. The purpose of these workshops will be to work with the residents of the area to talk about their ideas and aspirations for the artwork and to come up with a brief from these ideas that would then feed into the artwork. The Walls Project aim is to include the residents at No.9 as well as other Cultural Quarter residents in this process, including some of the recently-arrived displaced persons from Ukraine who are living on O\u2019Connell St in Waterford City.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
