Amhr\u00e1in \u2018gus \u00c1it is a traditional song research and performance project devised and produced by Rachel U\u00ed Fhaol\u00e1in of Ceol Mo Chro\u00ed.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Amhr\u00e1in \u2018gus \u00c1it will connects songs to places in Ireland through film.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This phase of the project will involve the re-energising of a local traditional song from the older generation of singers in Co. Clare. The project <\/span>o<\/span>bjectives <\/span>are to connect songs with place, to increase community engagement and to facilitate song transmission across the generations. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Rachel will examine the song repertoire of the late Jamesie McCarthy <\/span>(1898-1977).<\/span> J<\/span>amesie McCarthy, born in Quilty in Co. Clare, had a varied repertoire although he was known mainly as a singer of comic songs. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>Focusing on the song \u2018St. Brigid\u2019s Well\u2019<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Rachel will produce a film incorporating St. Brigid’s Well in Co. Clare, and the music of Jamsie McCarthy.\u00a0<\/span>The recording<\/span> is part of The Car<\/span>r<\/span>oll MacKenzie Collection at Clare County Library Archives.\u00a0thanks to the support of both Jim Carroll and Pat McKenzie who recorded this song from Jamesie McCarthy<\/span> in 1976.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Amhr\u00e1in ‘gus \u00c1it will premiere on the Ceol Mo Chro\u00ed social media platforms.\u00a0The film piece will also be accessible on the Rachel U\u00ed Fhaol\u00e1in – Ceol Mo Chro\u00ed YouTube Channel.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
