Held at the Kilmore Quay Community Gardens and the Stella Maris Centre, The Ways of Water project focuses on free boat-building workshops for the public. Working with willow and locally rescued and upcycled materials the project will focus on the creation of a small fleet of boats.<\/p>\n
Participants will be guided through structuring the boat-frames, making, stretching and treating the boats\u2019 fabric shells, and producing oarlocks and oar handles. Children will then be invited to plan and paint the exterior design of the boats. A second workshop for children will be held to demonstrate how local natural materials can be used to create small boats. This workshop will be held through both English and Irish. When the boats are ready, participants will be invited to launch and row the boats through the local paths of water, learning some boat handling skills and experiencing the landscape from a different vantage point.<\/p>\n
To draw out themes for the project, the artists aim to build upon the culture of biodiversity, conservation and water management found at Ballyteigue Burrow next to the gardens and centre.
