Artist Sophie von Maltzan with children from Rosemount National School will artistically investigate the importance of native birds of prey and create a tree rich habitat for them in Moate with the community.<\/p>\n
The Land That Feeds Us is a collaborative, socially engaged environmental research project into viable agriculture that was shaped by the artist and the community in 2023.<\/p>\n
Participants will learn about preserving birds of prey on farmland by;<\/p>\n
– Learning about natural ecosystems at a sustainable farm
– Meeting, watching and learning about birds of prey with a falconer
– Exploring two local existing natural habitats for native birds of prey in Ireland
– Planting a native micro woodland in Coolatore as a bird of prey habitat
– Planting thirty oak trees on private land around Rosemount
– holding a festive community opening event at the newly built habitat, during which the school children explain the project to the community<\/p>\n
This socially engaged art project with societal and environmental impact will strengthen Ireland\u2019s sustainable farming future amongst the Rosemount school children and the wider community.<\/p>\n
When the habitat is planted, the community will be invited to the opening. As well as offering local food, the children will explain the project and why birds of prey are important to the community.<\/p>\n
