D\u00fachasach \/Ypyku\u00e9ra will be a Gaelic-Brazilian indigenous visual arts project for the community of the Gaeltacht of Galway City East (and open to all residents of Galway).\u00a0<\/p>\n
Primitive or native art is a feature of Brazil and of some Gaeltacht communities: an indigenous artform rooted in the landscape, and in the experiences of these distinct communities. It is also an aesthetic expression of those communities\u2019 lives, their identities as well as their worldview, an expression of the unique way they view the world around them.<\/p>\n
Brazilian Na\u00eff artist In\u00eas Quintanilha Martins will give a series of creative workshops in Na\u00eff\/primitive art in Menlo where the participants will be inspired to create paintings and works of arts, using primitive art forms and styles, and perhaps by also accessing their \u2018indigenous\u2019 spirit and the indigenous side of their minds and heart.<\/p>\n
Anton \u00d3 Mian\u00e1in, the leading primitive artist from the Tory Island school of painting (and tutored by the British artist Derek Hill) will also give a workshop, adding a Gaeltacht\/Gaelic dimension to the project.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The work will be exhibited for a week in a community venue (with an opening) and a book of the art will be produced.<\/p>\n
