The Transition year students of St Mel\u2019s College, under the keen direction of Mickey Kenny, bring us the hilarious comedy \u2018A Wake in the West\u2019, a play that centres on the wake of Tom Healy, a man who was known to be \u2018fond of the drop\u2019.<\/p>\n

After a life devoted to alcohol it is no surprise that Tom\u2019s last wish is to be buried in the drink, at sea that is! Nonetheless it creates chaos in the house and parish. Mourners pour into Tom\u2019s parlour, but not all come to pay their respects!<\/p>\n

This is part of a very broad ranging, busy and vibrant Transition Year programme at St Mel\u2019s College, that includes weekly work experience ventures, community volunteer work and modules that broaden and enhance the skill set of students.<\/p>\n

\u2018A Wake in the West\u2019 is the first theatre project and performance put on by the school in a number of years. However, it is not the first performance of the school year for some of the cast, who joined the cast of St. Christopher\u2019s Services in a hugely successful production of \u2018Cinderella\u2019 in Backstage last December, demonstrating the calibre of student that represents St. Mel\u2019s College Transition Year Programme.<\/p>\n
