This project seek to highlight the people living in an urban socially disadvantaged housing estate in Dundalk. \u00a0The estate, built in the 1970s by Louth County Council, was largely originally populated by people from rural communities who wished to move to affordable urban housing and also by people who lived over the border and fled the troubles in Northern Ireland by relocating to Dundalk. \u00a0 \u00a0This produced a diverse culture in this area, and many of residents unknowingly became leaders for change by spearheading initiatives to improve the quality of life in their neighbourhood.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Over the years, the population of the estate has grown more diverse. \u00a0Residents from the Traveler community as well as various migrant groups also live in the area. The aim of this project is to collect the stories of people living and no longer living in these estates so that the unique fabric of these communities is not lost.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This is an opportunity for people in the estate to come together and share their stories, or the stories of their families or friends past, and to connect with people in their community.\u00a0 \u00a0We hope to engage a drama facilitator to engage the group to share stories of their community, and a videographer to capture areas of the estate as well as stories from the community. \u00a0It is envisaged that by sharing photos of the people at the heart of the stories, and artwork may be created to display in the local community centre and that this can be added to throughout the years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":0,"featured_media":32998,"template":"","class_list":["post-32997","event","type-event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
