The third annual Thomas MacDonagh Hedge School will take place at the Thomas MacDonagh Museum in Cloughjordan, County Tipperary 17-20 September 2025. <\/span>The programme, whose  theme is <\/span>Political Theatre: Learning from the past?<\/span><\/em>,<\/span> <\/span><\/em>includes inspirational talks and readings, scriptwriting workshops and an exhibition by North Tipperary Artists\u2019 Collective. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Assistant Professor in the School of History, DCU, Dr Leeann Lane\u2019s<\/strong> keynote address is titled \u2018Hunger strike as republican performativity: Mary MacSwiney, Brixton, 1920, Mountjoy 1922, Kilmainham 1923\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

 Williams Rossa Cole<\/strong>, great-grandson of O\u2019Donovan Rossa will introduce his film \u201cRebel Wife: The Story of Mary Jane O\u2019Donovan Rossa\u201d and take questions following the screening. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

James Moran<\/strong>, Professor of Modern English Literature and Drama, Faculty of Arts at Nottingham University, will deliver a talk on \u2018The Playwrights and 1916\u2019. The presentation will feature extracts from plays, including <\/span>The Plough and the Stars<\/span><\/em>, which caused riotous disturbance at the Abbey Theatre when first performed in 1926. <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

In their discussion \u2018<\/span>Poetry and Politics: Plural Perspectives\u2019 <\/span>Dr Ailbhe McDaid<\/strong> and Prof Eugene O\u2019Brien<\/strong>, of Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, <\/span>will discuss how poets respond to different political events, and <\/span>the symbolic (even theatrical) language of poetry to capture the past and current political upheavals.<\/span><\/p>\n
