Cork County Council is seeking proposals from visual artists or artist teams for a permanent outdoor mural\/artwork at the pedestrian bridge to the Harper\u2019s Island Wetlands located in Glounthaune Co. Cork.<\/p>\n
Proposals should be for a durable mural type artwork that is both inspired by and sensitive to this unique location. The artwork design should seek to engage all ages and abilities.<\/p>\n
Glounthaune Community Association and the Cork branch of BirdWatch Ireland are partners in the management of the wetlands. Artists as part of their application are asked to consider a programme of meaningful community engagement for children and adults to form part of the commission.<\/p>\n
Harper\u2019s Island Wetlands is situated near Glounthaune in Cork Harbour. This special place is an important refuge for high numbers of a large variety of waterbird species which visit Cork Harbour in the wintertime. The wetland habitats also support native plant species and provide food and shelter for insects, bats and other mammals.<\/p>\n
There are two bird viewing hides on the island which provide stunning views over the wetlands. A new looped nature trail has recently been opened. Other ecosystems on Harper\u2019s Island include hedgerow, scrub woodland, meadow and marsh.
