The Blind Fiddle Master\u2019s Concert is the highlight of the culture night celebrations in Longford this year. Headlined by K\u00edla<\/strong>, the event will involve musicians and artists from diverse musical and visual art backgrounds including the Yershova Sisters \u2013 a classically trained quintet from Kerry and Longford\u2019s premiere Ceili band \u2013 Banna C\u00e9il\u00ed B\u00e9al \u00c1tha na Muc<\/a>. Headlining the concert are the internationally renowned Irish folk group \u2013 kila. Along with playing their own music, the performing musicians will honour the Blind Fiddler Kernan\u2019s legacy by performing his tunes \u2013 many of which have not been performed in many decades.<\/p>\n

This concert represents a significant milestone in honouring the Fiddler Kernan legacy. Thomas Kernan from Drumlish was a celebrated Fiddler player and teacher in the 19th century. He recorded several hundred tunes to paper that he had composed or picked up from a life in music. He influenced a style of playing in the Longford-South Leitrim region that still exists today.<\/p>\n

In tandem with the live music concert, three visual artists Mary Fleming, Sergii Khazdava and Anna Wiercioch have also been commissioned to create a digital projection mapping and art piece for the concert site.
