FORECAST is a multidisciplinary, collaborative exploration of the role of fortune readers, diviners and healers. Junk Ensemble and Rua Red invite participants from the Traveller community to bring voice and form to these cultural traditions. Historically, divination has been associated with women, intertwining mystical practices with female leadership.T his connection is particularly evident in cultures where women have held roles as healers, seers, and wise figures. These practices gave women a form of agency and power, especially in societies where they faced marginalisation.<\/p>\n
The association between women and divination is rooted in their perceived connection to intuition and the cycles of nature, such as menstruation and childbirth. Through movement workshops, storytelling, informal interviews, lectures, and \u201creading sessions,\u201d the project will bridge the gap these practices which are embedded in Traveller culture, and folklore practices and their significance in contemporary society.<\/p>\n
FORECAST is a testament to the power of storytelling, movement, and collaboration. By honouring the traditions and voices of intergenerational Traveller women, the project creates a platform for important conversations, empowerment, and cultural celebration.
