Historically Longford was known as Annaly, and <\/span>Longfort U\u00ed Fhearghail<\/span><\/em> \u2013 <\/span>Longford of the O\u2019Farrells. <\/span><\/em>As part of the 10th International Farrell Clan Rally that will take place this July,  a Schools\u2019 Heritage Project was envisioned and set in motion.    <\/span><\/p>\n

Several schools in Co. Longford were invited to participate in the Farrell Clan Schools Heritage Project 2026. <\/strong>Also taking part are St. Christopher\u2019s Centre.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Our project encompasses a range of art forms \u2013 including music, dance, and literature. It embodies the spirit of inclusion, collaboration, and self-expression. Participants were encouraged and supported to unlock their creativity. A display will be held in Edgeworthstown Library in May, and later during the Clan Rally at other venues. The project will be digitised.   <\/span><\/p>\n

The participants explored and recorded the history of the Farrells \/ O\u2019Farrells e. g. ancient castles, islands, place names, and personalities such as James Farrell – Titanic, Dr. Mary Farrell, J. P. Farrell \u2013 politician etc. Some schools focused on Farrells \/ O\u2019Farrells  who are now making history at home or abroad: Clare Farrell – sport, Maggie O\u2019Farrell – writer, Niamh Farrell \u2013 trad. singer. <\/span><\/p>\n

We hope to raise the profile of The Farrell Clan in the local community, and to highlight the importance of our shared ancestry.<\/span><\/p>\n
