{"id":41238,"date":"2026-05-11T15:49:32","date_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:49:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.creativeireland.gov.ie\/event\/discovering-drumanagh\/"},"modified":"2026-05-11T15:49:32","modified_gmt":"2026-05-11T14:49:32","slug":"discovering-drumanagh","status":"publish","type":"event","link":"https:\/\/www.creativeireland.gov.ie\/en\/event\/discovering-drumanagh\/","title":{"rendered":"Discovering Drumanagh"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Did you know that a 2,000-year-old fig from the Iron Age was discovered in a grassy field in Rush, North County Dublin?<\/p>\n<p>Award-winning children\u2019s author and illustrator <a href=\"http:\/\/niamhsharkey.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Niamh Sharkey<\/a> (Laureate na n\u00d3g 2012\u20132014) is collaborating with St Catherine\u2019s National School, Rush, to explore one of Fingal\u2019s most fascinating hidden landscapes: Drumanagh, an ancient Iron Age promontory fort.<\/p>\n<p>Community excavations at Drumanagh have revealed remarkable evidence of contact with the Roman world \u2014 including the discovery of that ancient fig, which made international headlines. Perhaps it even hints at how figs first found their way into the humble Fig Roll!&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the heart of <em>Discovering Drumanagh<\/em> are the students of Ms Kavanagh\u2019s 4th class. Through a unique artist residency, delivered in partnership with Fingal County Council\u2019s Heritage Office, Libraries Department and Arts Office, children uncover the stories of this site and reimagine them through creativity.<\/p>\n<p>Guided by Niamh Sharkey, students explore history, archaeology, biodiversity and storytelling through site visits, workshops and artistic experimentation using ink and charcoal.
