We Used to Play Here

Carrickmacross and Inniskeen will play host to two magical days of unique musical performance from Cellist Kate Ellis and Double Bassist Caimin Gilmore. They are touring each province in Ireland in a pop up music performance venue, sharing the wonder of music making and performance, with audiences appropriate to the times we live in.

A particular highlight of the concert is a rendition of “An Bonnán Buí”, a traditional air based on the poem by the South Ulster poet Cathal Buí Mac Giolla Ghunna, arranged by Caimin Gilmore.

The pop up venue is a specially designed performance space commissioned for this brief tour of Ireland and supported by Bank Of Ireland Begin Together Arts Fund in partnership with Business to Arts and by Creative Monaghan & Patrick Kavanagh Centre.

Kate is Artistic Director of Crash Ensemble, Ireland’s leading new music group. She performs with Martin Hayes’ Common Ground Ensemble and has collaborated with Karan Casey, Mel Mercier & Rhiannon Giddens. In 2009, she co-founded Kaleidoscope Night – a monthly music salon featuring classical/contemporary/improvising and folk musicians.

Caimin has extensively toured the U.S.A, Europe, Australia, Asia, U.K and Ireland as a Double Bassist, including Lisa Hannigan’s At Swim album tour. He is a member of Crash Ensemble, s t a r g a z e and plays regularly with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and Ulster Orchestra. He recently released his first solo EP, ‘String Ogham Live
