Knitted Hearts and Blankets Initiative: A Community Craft Project
Building on the successful knitted hearts and blankets initiative introduced in 2023 by the End of Life Care team in the Emergency Department and the End of Life Care Committee at St. Luke’s General Hospital Kilkenny, we are excited to announce the next phase of this heartfelt project.
Participants have been guided by our dedicated team on how to create these beautiful knitted hearts. This September, we invite all participants to join us for a special afternoon at Loughboy Library and the local parish centre. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to connect, showcase your creations, and enjoy a facilitated craft session with local artist Monica Fleming. Tea, coffee, and light refreshments will be provided.
The event will bring together the Loughboy Knitting Group and clients of the Integrated Care Programme for Older Persons (ICPOP). The completed knitted hearts will be displayed at St. Luke’s General Hospital and within the community via ICPOP Oriel House. This display will encourage informal conversations about end of life, death, and the bereavement process among service users, visitors, carers, family members, and healthcare professionals.
Join us in celebrating creativity, community, and compassion.
