Slow Journeys at Rathbeagh Ringfort

This year, The Acorn Project is collaborating with the Old Irish Goat Society from Mulranny on a conservation grazing initiative at Rathbeagh. The presence of the goats will support the restoration of native plant life and help clear a path around the ancient tumulus. Supported by Kilkenny Biodiversity Officer.

Through a series of nature-based engagements with the ringfort that bring together tending practices and making with wild plants, we will develop a community of practice at the ringfort through a series of nature-based workshops that explore how to process nettles and brambles for fibre-making and botanical dyeing. We will engage in tool making to create drop spindles and looms for weaving.

Workshop 1 : Nettle Harvest to Process Fibres.

Workshop 2 :  June 28 Natural Dyeing and Drop Spindles.: Create your own tools for spinning based on ancient technique of spinning.

Workshop 3 : July / Aug : Processing Nettles and Spinning

Workshop 4 : Weaving with natural fibres.  Dates to be confirmed
