Sensory-Focused Ceramic Project
Sensory-Focused Ceramic Project
This collaborative ceramic project brings together the HSE Leitrim Disability Services Group, Leitrim School of Art, to support adults with intellectual disabilities living in community-based settings. Following the success of a pilot programme, this expanded initiative offers a creative, therapeutic space where participants can explore clay work in a calm, supportive environment.
Ceramics is a highly tactile and engaging art form, ideal for promoting both physical and emotional wellbeing. Through shaping, moulding, and glazing clay, participants will improve fine motor skills, build hand strength, and experience the calming, meditative effects of working with natural materials. For those who may find verbal communication challenging, this hands-on process offers a powerful way to express emotions and ideas nonverbally.
Each session is tailored to individual needs, with a flexible pace and simple, achievable projects such as bowls, tiles, or small sculptures. The focus is on creativity, confidence, and connection—helping participants feel a sense of pride and ownership in their work.
Held in the fully accessible Ballinamore Studio, this project offers a safe, inclusive space where creativity becomes a tool for wellbeing and self-expression.
