Bunowen and Carrowniskey rivers 'Slow the Flow' art project

This joyful and collaborative art project, led by artist Annaliese Brown and supported by LAWPRO, is part of the Blue Dot to the Sea campaign—a creative initiative designed to celebrate and protect the exceptional Blue Dot waters of the region. Working alongside local schools, businesses, and community groups, the project will bring people together to create a series of blue dot mosaics that highlight the importance of water quality and our shared connection to the landscape.

The project includes plans for hands-on workshops with children from Killeen NS and Louisburgh NS, who will create mosaics using jam jar lids they’ve collected. These will be assembled into a large display panel, which will be exhibited in the atrium of Books at One. Annaliese will also create a mosaic panel for a new sign at Scott’s Island, introducing the project and featuring a QR code linking to more information. Transition Year students will help install slate mosaic pieces at selected locations across the catchment—bringing the artwork into the landscape itself. Some details, including final locations and permissions, are still being worked out in collaboration with local partners.

At its heart, this project is about community creativity and collaboration. From collecting materials to shaping the final design, local people will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas, skills, and artistic energy.
