Cló Gaelach Conservation at Marino
This project seeks to conserve 40 historic green and white Cló Gaelach street signs in Marino, Dublin 3. These enamel signs, emblematic of Irish nationalism and the Gaelic Revival, are of significant architectural and cultural heritage value and are located in an area prioritised as an Architectural Conservation Area under the Dublin City Development Plan 2022–2028. The Cló Gaelach signs will therefore be considered as protected elements once the Architectural Conservation Area is formally adopted.
Building on the success of conservation of Cló Gaelach signs in the Tenters in the Liberties, this initiative will involve specialist repair by Decowell Restoration and aims to raise public awareness of the estate’s historic character, while preserving these rare and culturally symbolic elements of the streetscape for future generations.
