Mayo Makers! Creative Technology Workshops for Young People
This innovative project brings creative technology workshops to libraries across Mayo, offering children aged 8–14 a hands-on introduction to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Maths). Over eight days, 16 workshops will be delivered in four libraries, welcoming full school classes to explore robotics, coding, animation, and digital art in a fun and inclusive environment.
Children build and code robots using LEGO and microbit devices, design pixel art characters, and create their own video games—all while learning about sustainability and digital creativity. The workshops are designed to be accessible to children of all abilities and language backgrounds, with activities that transcend language barriers and foster imagination, curiosity, and wellbeing.
Libraries become vibrant hubs of creativity, showcasing their role as spaces for cultural learning and innovation. Teachers receive a free manual to continue creative technology activities in the classroom, and librarians are supported to build local STEAM infrastructure. The project promotes lifelong creative skills and opens up new possibilities for children who may not otherwise have access to such experiences.
