Displaced – A Musical Support Program for Trauma Recovery and Wellbeing
Displaced is a creative wellbeing initiative designed to support older Ukrainian women who have experienced the trauma of war and displacement. Through a unique integration of music, yoga, and aromatherapy, the project offers a safe and nurturing space where participants can reconnect with themselves and others, using music not only as an art form but as a therapeutic tool for healing and self-expression.
Facilitated in a welcoming group setting, the programme encourages emotional release, cultural identity, and personal storytelling through sound and movement. Participants will engage in guided sessions that promote relaxation, mindfulness, and connection—helping to ease isolation and build community across language and cultural barriers.
The project also includes the creation of a video resource, documenting the process and outcomes. This will serve as a lasting artistic piece, amplifying the voices of those affected by displacement and offering inspiration to other migrant and vulnerable groups. The resource will be designed for wider accessibility, with potential applications for neurodivergent individuals as part of Westport’s Autism-Friendly Town initiative.
By fostering creativity, connection, and civic participation, Displaced becomes more than a wellbeing programme—it becomes a platform for visibility, empowerment, and shared humanity.
