Ham Sandwiches and Discipline by Nóra Ní Anluain Fay

This project brings contemporary dance and GAA together through a collaboration between Cuala GAA Club and NAF Dance, exploring the company's critically acclaimed work 'Ham Sandwiches and Discipline.'

'Ham Sandwiches and Discipline,' is a camp, comedic, contemporary dance duet about the world of the GAA. While injecting this hive of Irishness with campiness and humour we glimpse what growing up can be like in Ireland and what can shape an Irish identity.

Now that the piece is established, NAF dance would like to return to a new GAA club collaboration, this time with their local club, the infamous Cuala. NAFF will spend two days on the Cuala grounds in November 2025 workshopping the material with different teams and their managers. Then choreographer and performer of the piece Nóra Ní Anluain Fay and co-performer Ben Sullivan will return to the grounds a week later and play with everything that was discussed to create a film that reimagines the work on the grounds itself and create a visual retelling of the piece.

In December a screening of the work will take place in the Cuala clubhouse for all the teams, with a discussion afterwards. This brings the teams along with every step of the process and welcomes them into the created work.

This initiative was funded through dlr's Creative Ireland Project Award.
