‘Elder Earth Guardians’  is a creative project that integrates community climate actions through a fun interactive participatory performance between The Elders, a theatre group for people over 65, and children in the Dundrum area. 

This funding will support The Elders to draft a script for a performance that they will bring to schools in the future. The aim is to inspire discussion through storytelling, movement, costume and drama. 

The Elders are committed to their artistic practice and to integrating climate actions into it, they are a cohort of people who remember the time before the climate emergency when saving water and energy were a matter of personal necessity and who have the motivation to pass on ideas to upcoming generations. They have something to offer on this subject and this is the time for all communities to stand up for climate. We, as artists, are well placed to do this in an entertaining and engaging way. 

We want to explore the idea of what a ‘guardian’ is and how to become one. The Elders will develop stories based on their own wealth of experience in how they’ve looked after the environment through guardianship, protection, protest or simple kindnesses to nature. We will then develop theatricality around these stories through movement, set and costume design, sound and visuals.
