Reader in Residence
The Reader in Residence Programme is designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading by connecting children to stories through imagination, creativity, and mindfulness. The Reader in Residence will work closely with teachers and pupils to develop engaging, inclusive sessions that celebrate reading in all its forms, from fiction and poetry to comics, song lyrics, and graphic novels.
The programme supports the Right to Read initiative and aims to build stronger links between schools and their local library services. By focusing on creativity, confidence, and wellbeing, it offers a safe and supportive space where all pupils , including reluctant readers and those learning English as an additional language, can discover the power of stories and self-expression.
Aligned with Cork County Council’s Culture and Creativity Strategy, the residency promotes connected and creative communities, inclusivity, and youth engagement. It also supports the Council’s commitment to wellness and creativity by encouraging self-confidence, collaboration, and a sense of belonging through shared reading experiences.
