Celebrate women’s strength and creativity across Ireland for St. Brigid’s Day this weekend

As winter turns toward spring, people across Ireland come together to honour St. Brigid, one of Ireland’s most beloved patron saints and a symbol of creativity, community and renewal. St. Brigid’s Day marks not just a feast day but an opportunity to celebrate imagination, heritage and the turning of the seasons.

If you’re looking for events this weekend celebrating women’s strength, creativity and resilience, Creative Ireland is proud to support a range of free and inspiring events for all ages that bring these traditions and contemporary creativity to life – from workshops and storytelling to festivals and community gatherings. Here’s what’s going on around the country this St. Brigid’s weekend.

Weaving Words and Pictures, A Creative Celebration on St. Brigid’s Eve

31 January 2026, Cavan County Museum, Ballyjamesduff

The celebration continues on the evening of 31 January with Weaving Words and Pictures, a creative event taking place at Cavan County Museum. Part of the Bringing St. Brigid’s Cloak to Life project, this event brings together poetry, textile art and visual storytelling in a collaborative and welcoming setting.

Participants are invited to a needle-felting workshop led by Morag Donald, creating Brigid-inspired symbols from wool and fibre. Poet Bee Smith will facilitate a poetry workshop where participants write and print their own poems inspired by St. Brigid, and the themes of renewal and creativity. The evening also marks the opening of the St. Brigid’s cloak exhibition, which will become part of the museum’s permanent collection.

This event offers a reflective and hands-on way to welcome St. Brigid’s Day through shared creative practice.

29th-30th January 2026, Shannon and Kilrush Library, Co.Clare

Take part in this hands‑on workshop where you’ll learn how to craft a traditional Brideóg—a symbolic doll representing Brigid and a cherished part of Irish seasonal folklore. Celebrate heritage, creativity, and community in Shannon and Kilrush Library.

Wise Wool Project

Alongside these St. Brigid’s Day events, Creative Ireland continues to support initiatives that reflect Brigid’s association with craft, land and sustainability. The Wise Wool Project is a Creative Ireland-funded initiative that celebrates Ireland’s wool heritage while addressing the issue of wool waste.

The Wise Wool Project will host a Brat Bríde workshop on 31 January, inviting participants to create their own Brat Bríde using a range of beautiful materials. Alongside the making process, the workshop will explore the folklore associated with St. Brigid and Imbolc, offering a shared moment to mark the turning of the season together as a community.
