Creative Inclusion
SWAN is a centre in the heart of Ballysadare which is managed by the HSE intellectual disabilities service CDLMS. 'Creative Inclusion' as an art project that hopes to improve access to arts and crafts and creative expression, and to remove barriers to participation, for people supported at the centre. Art sessions will help develop fine motor skills, improve decision making, and develop self-expression. People attending will develop and sustain friendships through art in a group setting and also have a meaningful artistic experience.
The project is aimed at adults with intellectual disability living in our community who have a wide range of communication and mobility needs and a common interest in the Arts.
The project will run over a 12 week period from February to April 2026 with weekly sessions held in the Swan Centre, focusing on a specific creative technique.
The project engages with the community and focuses on inclusivity making creativity
available to people with an intellectual disability in the area who would not otherwise have the
opportunity to engage with the Arts due to cost or physical, emotional or environmental factors.
It would be hoped long term to build on this project and expand our connections in the local community possibly with the local Secondary School or a display of Art.
