Hands + Stories

Hands and Stories is a participatory, community-led creative programme based in Headford, Co. Galway. The project brings people together through hands-on creativity and shared storytelling.

The programme consists of a series of accessible workshops led by local artists, makers, musicians and storytellers. Each workshop focuses on making with the hands and sharing stories, encouraging participants to engage creatively while building relationships and a sense of belonging. Creative forms include oral storytelling, music, visual art, printmaking, ceramics, yarn work and sustainable making using reused and natural materials.

Hands and Stories is designed to broaden access and participation by offering inclusive, low-barrier workshops for a wide range of community members. Activities will engage families and children, adults, and specific groups such as the Headford Men’s Shed. No previous creative experience is required. Participants are encouraged to learn together, share skills, exchange ideas and build confidence through collective creative experiences.

A central aim of the project is to bring people together creatively and support the sharing of personal and place-based stories. Storytelling workshops invite participants to reflect on memories, experiences and everyday life in Headford.
