Coterie: Creative Ways of Seeing, Thinking and Engaging with Place
Coterie: Creative Ways of Seeing, Thinking and Engaging with Place is a community-led creative programme in Westmeath, run by Andrea Cullen of Cúige Studios. The programme invites adults from Westmeath, including Mullingar, Athlone, and surrounding townlands, to explore ways of seeing, thinking, and engaging with place through sketching, photography, and shared encounters across studio, town, and landscape settings.
Participants receive a sketchbook and a disposable camera, and all sessions are free to attend. The project builds on the Coterie community, active since 2023, and introduces a structured series of nine creative encounters facilitated by artists and creative professionals. These include three free community creative workshops, three free community amenity visits, two free community town engagements, and one free community showcase. Encounters take place across Cúige Studios, Mullingar town, the Hill of Uisneach, and Mullingar Library. Participants engage through hands-on activity, guided observation and shared reflection, developing creative confidence and new ways of connecting with their environment. The programme culminates in a final gathering at Cúige Studios where participants share work and reflections, extending the experience to the wider community.
