Threads of Identity
Threads of Identity brings together women from a wide range of cultures to explore creativity as a form of self‑expression and a gentle way to share who they are with the wider community. Through this shared creative journey, the project aims to nurture connection, community integration, and mutual understanding.
The project responds to the women’s own expressed desire for a space where they can meet, learn from one another, and pass on craft and design skills. It will also create a supportive environment for sharing personal stories and using journaling as a tool for wellness, reflection, and resilience.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of pattern‑making, cutting, sewing, and clothing design. They will also have the chance to breathe new life into old garments by up‑cycling or customising pieces, transforming them into something fresh, meaningful, and wearable.
A series of meet‑ups with a group of young women from Louth Traveller Movement, who are also developing dressmaking skills, will be woven into the programme. Together, both groups will work toward a joint fashion show or exhibition at the project’s conclusion. These meet‑ups will also include wellness and journaling sessions to further support connection and creativity.
