It was led by Helium Arts in partnership with the Lynn Clinic, Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) at Temple Street, Ireland’s first dedicated Paediatric Inclusion Health (PIH) service, and the HSE Refugee Health Clinic at the National Reception Centre in Balseskin, Co. Dublin, supported by CHI Arts in Health Programme.
Journeys used creative engagement as a means for children to express their experiences and ideas, nurturing their creative passions while supporting integration and reducing social isolation.
Over the two years, the project reached:
- 162 children and young people through the PIH clinics
- 137 children and young people reached through the in-person community workshops
The project saw the development of various wraparound supports to increase participation from the specific communities. This included translated marketing and communications material into 11 different languages, provision of transportation, use of accessible community venues and the appointment of a Communications and Outreach Coordinator, who built on learning and connections made in the project.
In addition, JOURNEYS – For a Better Tomorrow – An Art Exhibition by Young Creators took place in the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) from 5th – 7th July 2025
The outputs and outcomes of this project have had an organisational wide impact on Helium Arts, with learnings and resources developed and disseminated across their programmes nationally. This has increased engagement with children who are at higher risk of social exclusion, living with lifelong physical health conditions in more accessible and inclusive ways. The relationships built with the Lynn Clinic Teams and CHI Arts in Health have increased awareness and created strong foundations for referral of children to Helium Arts programmes.
