Celebrating Lá na Cruite|Harp Day 2026 in Roscommon
This project celebrates CÉHI’s Harp Day theme Sult (Enjoyment) by highlighting Roscommon’s rich harping heritage as the home of 17th‑century harper Turlough O’Carolan. Through partnerships with local harpers, Music Generation Roscommon and traditional musicians, the day brings communities together, broadens access to the harp, and celebrates the county’s unique musical legacy.
Events take place across multiple venues. Moore Community Centre hosts workshops with harper Pádraic Collins, hands‑on harps sessions, a talk on harp making and maintenance by Brian Callan, a session for young harpers, and an evening concert by Blossom Harp Ensemble, led by Lizzie Affolter, with Pádraic Collins.
St Ronan’s Hall presents a concert showcasing the music of O’Carolan and its continuing influence, featuring young duo Harping On (Aoife Guckian and Sophie Daly), members of the O’Carolan Trio and The Carolan Collective, alongside Fiachra Guihen, Emma Benson, Mossie Martin (fiddle) and Rachel Noone (concertina). The concert will be filmed for archive by David Knight.
Further events include a lunchtime pop‑up concert and hands‑on harps at Arigna Mining Experience, and a talk on O’Carolan by historian Luke Gibbons at King House.
