Creative Technology Workshops for Children
Corrib Kids Coding will run 4 week coding clubs which introduce children aged 8-14 to the world of creative technology using a variety of formats.Groups will build 4-5 robots with Lego, connect them to the computer via Bluetooth and code them to carry out various tasks using lights, sounds, sensors, and motors. The Lego coding projects have a sustainability focus and projects introduce themes of renewable energy, biodiversity, recycling and environmental responsibility as a global citizen though building windmills, electric vehicles, and biodiversity tracking tools.
Children also program a microbit device to animate, send text messages, play sounds, and sense movement. We program the device to count steps in a fun game. Children will design their own 2D character and world using pixel art to create a video game. They spend time designing and creating a game world through which the character navigates and they learn the basics of block coding by using blocks to move a character around the maze to collect coins and earn a score each time. This game they create is published and they can access it at home to show parents and friends and continue to code in their own time.
