History Inspiring Hope (Model of Carlow Workhouse)

This meaningful collaboration brings together the adult learners of Delta Hanover and Carlow- based Artist Jim Donnelly to create a striking 3-D model inspired by the historic Carlow workhouse Union. As true co-creators, Delta Hanover participants are actively involved in every stage of the journey- from research and design to the final construction making this both an artistic and deeply participatory project.

At the heart of the project are two powerful themes, History and Hope. Through these, participants explore not only the rich heritage of the place, but also their own personal stories, memories and identities. These reflections are captured in two specifically created artworks, which will also be on display. Together, they invite viewers to reflect on the past while considering the importance of learning from it to shape a more inclusive and connected future.

The completed piece will be unveiled to the public in 2027 and as part of the Feile na beatha event in SETU Carlow in April before finding a permanent home in Carlow Library/ Museum. This inspiring project stands as a testament to creativity, collaboration and the enduring power of shared stories.
