Alive in our stories, Beo in ár Scéalta

As part of the national Bealtaine Festival 2026, the Galway Mobile Library Service will host a series of Age Friendly storytelling sessions designed to celebrate creativity, memory, and the enduring spirit of older people.

In alignment with this year’s festival theme, “Lust for Life,” the project will bring uplifting, culturally rich experiences to older adults in care settings across the Tuam & Loughrea Municipal Districts.

Led by renowned storyteller Niall de Búrca, these sessions will blend Irish folklore, reminiscence, humour, and gentle interaction, encouraging joy, connection, and emotional wellbeing among participants.

The project removes barriers to participation by delivering storytelling sessions in care settings across the Tuam & Loughrea Municipal Districts.

This ensures that older adults, particularly those who may have mobility challenges, health limitations, or limited access to cultural venues, can still engage with meaningful cultural experiences.

Storyteller Niall de Búrca draws from Irish folklore and cultural memory, allowing participants to engage with stories that reflect their own heritage, identity, and lived experience. This strengthens cultural belonging and fosters pride, particularly for older people who may feel disconnected from community life.
